Nupur Sharma wrote on his Twitter handle: “I have been participating in TV debates for several days where our Mahadev has been constantly insulted and disrespected. It was ridiculed as a fountain, not a Shiva Linga. Shivalinga is being ridiculed in comparison to Delhi’s street side panels and pillars. “Our great God did not tolerate this constant insult and disrespect and I said a few things in response. If my words hurt someone unpleasant or religious, I would unconditionally withdraw my statement. It was not my intention to offend anyone’s religious feelings – Nupur Sharma.

The BJP suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma from its primary membership on Sunday and ousted Delhi media chief Naveen Kumar Jindal following alleged statements against minorities.

Earlier this morning, the BJP abstained from controversial comments that it “strongly condemns the humiliation of any religious person.”
